Iām Emily, the Outreach Intern here at Indiana INTERNnet this summer. I feel grateful and excited for the opportunity to spend the next several months promoting experiential learning in my home state!
Iām originally from Fort Wayne, where I attended Homestead High School and had my first internship experiences as a senior there. I really appreciate the freedom I had to gain professional experience before college, and thatās a major part of why Iām so excited about joining the Indiana INTERNnet team now. This is my fifth formal internship, so I guess you could say itās a passion! Last summer I was a part-time intern at an Indianapolis nonprofit called Tangram and at Prudentialās Indiana Financial Group. Dear Indiana INTERNnet,
The opportunity to intern with this company has been a delightful learning experience. Throughout the semester, I’ve learned and grown in many ways.
Most notably, I had the opportunity to plan and execute an Instagram-based social media campaign. The goal of the campaign was to create engaging content for students on our Instagram. I wrote out a full plan, created graphics, and produced videos through Tik-Tok for the platform. The result was an increase in followers and student engagement on our account!
Mike, our executive director, gave me full creative freedom to do this project.Ā Thank you for being a fearless leader during these uncertain times.

Working and Studying from Home
With both city and state governments announcing new guidelines and restrictions to stay healthy and safe, a lot of people are expected to not just stay home, but also work or attend classes from home. There could be a silver lining. No more commuting (at least for the time being), and more opportunities to eat an actual well-balanced meal instead of whatever you can heat up in the office microwave or find in the campus cafeteria. Balancing Work and Wellness
As a student and employee, it’s important to balance work and school. Everyone should make sure their health is a priority. Health is one of those things that we all often overlook until we’re no longer healthy enough to carry out our daily tasks. This is especially annoying when there’s a big test or work event. As basic as it sounds, taking care of yourself by eating properly and working out will ensure you are operating at an optimal level.
Of course, when trying to balance classes, work, an internship, extracurricular activities and possibly a social life, the last thing on most peopleās minds is three well-balanced meals and 30 minutes of exercise a day for five days a week. My name is Judi Bustamante, the new admin and outreach intern at Indiana INTERNnet for spring 2020. I am very excited to be a part of such a brilliant organization. I graduated from Indiana University – Indianapolis, with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts in Journalism with a concentration in public relations and a creative writing minor.
While at IUPUI, I was a member of the Native American Student Alliance and Public Relations Student Society of America. I also helped the Latinas Welding Guild with videography, photography and anything media related in my spare time.

Originally from the Windy City, I attended Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences and graduated from DeVry University Advantage Academy. Hello, my name is Laura Knight. I am a senior at Indiana University, majoring in Policy Studies with a focus in Criminal Justice. I previously majored in Social Work at Ivy Tech Community College before transferring to IUPUI. My current major will allow me to pursue policy advocacy and research, while keeping the door open to graduate school or law school.
Before Ivy Tech & IUPUI, I attended high school in Wapakoneta, Ohio. This is a small town nestled in northwestern Ohio, where Drive Your Tractor to School Day was a regular, yearly event. During this time in my life I was involved in French club, Spanish club, cross country and track, and a rabbit breeder with 4-H.
