My name is Firdas, and I am the first member of my family to go to college!

My family moved to the United States 10 years ago when I was only 13 years old.  At the time, I already knew that going to college would be a given for me. My parents gave up all their life savings and their loved ones in order to move to the land of opportunities. You see, my parents never had the opportunity to go to college, so they have always dreamed about being able to give the opportunity to their children. Despite heavy course load, internship is worth it

Ashley Hager is a fall intern with Milliner & Associates, a staffing and recruiting agency for accounting, finance, HR and administrative employment positions.

Stress. Overload. Pressure. Worry.

These are a few words that come to mind when I think about working 20 hours a week and taking 18 credit hours this semester.

You know what, though?

Experience. Mentor. Learning. Opportunity. Thankful.

These are a few words that come to mind when I think about my internship.

Still to this day, an entire month after my first day, I am shocked that I get to work at Milliner & Associates for a whole semester. This is an amazing opportunity.

I wake up at 5:30 a.m. and get home at 9:30 p.m. from my evening classes. I have never had problems with time management before. I’ve also never really had a full schedule like this before either. It is hard finding time …

Indiana INTERNnet: You were a long-time intern with Angie’s List and worked your way up to a full-time position. How did your internship help you get to this point?

Paige Prather: I started interning with Angie’s List the summer after my freshman year of college (May 2012). As an intern, one of the areas I assisted with frequently was Talent Acquisition. When I graduated in December 2014 from Marian University, there was an opening in the Talent Acquisition department. I still went through the process like an external candidate. My internship helped me to be offered a full-time role because of my depth of knowledge about the company, great working relationships with managers in …

Internship confirms career track

This is a guest blog by Kelsey Fuqua, a student at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC). She was a human resources intern with Providence Health Care in Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, IN.

Providence Health Care (PHC) at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods is sponsored by the Sisters of Providence and is located on the grounds of the Sisters of Providence motherhouse in Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, IN. PHC was established in 2002 and initially served as a health care facility devoted entirely to ill or infirm Sisters of Providence.

In 2012, PHC opened to patients from the public in addition to Sisters of Providence. They offer inpatient and outpatient physical, occupational, speech and aquatic therapy in which is all provided by their warm and caring round-the-clock-skilled nursing staff.

PHC employs nearly 120 people. For an organization like PHC, they are rooted in the values and mission of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods who strive to …

From Medicine to Marketing: How Internships Changed My Mind

I enjoyed most subjects in high school—with the exceptions of physics and art.

Growing up, I had this idea that there were three main occupations that would bring the highest accolade: physician, lawyer, and engineer. When I had to choose a college major, I decided to pursue a pre-professional health track, since I was interested in biology. After taking an introductory course, I was smitten with psychology, and I quickly added it as a complementary major. By my junior year, I realized that my interest in the medical field was dwindling. I still enjoyed learning about the infinite complexity of living things, but I could not foresee myself living out the physician’s lifestyle. I loved watching House and Scrubs, but my interest stopped with TV.  This is why internships have been so critical in my career path.
