Celebrate Internship Excellence at the IMPACT Awards Luncheon
Join Indiana INTERNnet in celebrating internship excellence at the 12th Annual IMPACT Awards Luncheon, sponsored by Ivy Tech Community College. Check-in for the luncheon begins at 11 a.m. on February 7, and the program will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The IMPACT Awards spotlight the importance of internships and applaud the individuals who make these experiences meaningful and successful. Indiana INTERNnet will recognize nominees in the categories of Intern of the Year (high school, college and non-traditional), Employer of the Year (for-profit and not-for-profit) and Career Development Professional of the Year during the luncheon.

We encourage you to complete the online nomination form, and share how this person is committed to internship excellence and how he or she has made an IMPACT! Intern of the Year (3) High School College Non-Traditional. *High school and college interns must be enrolled in school during the time of their internship in 2017. Nominations Open for 2018 IMPACT Awards
Indiana INTERNnet, managed by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, is a statewide organization focusing on talent retention through increased work-and-learn experiences. Over a decade ago, Indiana INTERNnet began the tradition of celebrating internship excellence by launching the annual IMPACT Awards program. Each year, the program continues to grow in size and success.
The IMPACT Awards, presented at an annual luncheon, honor three categories: Interns of the Year (high school, college and non-traditional), Employers of the Year (for-profit and not-for-profit) and a Career Development Professional of the Year. Indiana INTERNnet will celebrate its 12th group of awards, nominees and winners on February 7, 2018 at the Ivy Tech Corporate College and Culinary Center. Registration will be open soon.
Nominations for IMPACT Awards are submitted by the public, and winners are chosen by a panel of impartial judges. Submit your nomination(s) in any or all of the categories by October 20. Employees …

Brittany Ulman is a graduate of Ball State University with a bachelorâs degree in creative writing. She completed a marketing internship with International Floral Distributors, Inc.
Indiana INTERNnet: How did you become interested in pursuing your degree?
Brittany Ulman: When I first started at Ball State, I was a dietetics major with the full intention of completing my internship in a hospital and becoming the dietitian in an Intensive Care Unit at a hospital close to my hometown. Autumn Ogrin: I was introduced into a business that I was not entirely familiar with, but I knew few agricultural aspects. Therefore, from the beginning I became aware of the resources the business sold, the services offered, and the prices of each product/service. Chase Bogan: It was actually much different than I anticipated. I knew nothing about Hanapin Marketing before applying, and assumed I wouldnât really fit in, or enjoy an internship at a marketing place. Megan McKinney is a senior at Ball State University graduating in June 2017 with a bachelorâs degree in computer information systems. She interned with Ontario Systems in the security and compliance department.
Indiana INTERNnet: How did you like your internship with Ontario Systems?
Megan McKinney: My internship at Ontario Systems was a huge blessing for me. I was able to enhance my knowledge in cybersecurity, computer networking and project management. I have been very blessed to have several mentors that I have been there for me through it all.

Hannah Dodd, Indiana Institute of Technology
When Hannah Dodd started her geographic information systems (GIS) internship with the city of Butler, she had little knowledge of the field. That would quickly change as Dodd was contributing to projects within just a few days of beginning in her position.
âHannahâs ability to learn, to understand the purpose and focus on what we do here, and her strong work ethic made her an integral and indispensable part of the team within only a week or two,â shares James Otis, GIS/IT coordinator for the city of Butler.

Shooting for Success at IMPACT Awards
Indiana INTERNnet honored excellence among interns, employers and career development professionals at the 11th annual IMPACT Awards Luncheon, sponsored by Ivy Tech Community College.
The theme for the luncheon was âShooting for Successâ and Tamika Catchings, four-time Olympic gold medalist, WNBA All-Star and founder of Catch the Stars Foundation delivered the keynote address, âScoring Big with Your Career.â
Before Catchings finished her final season with Indiana Fever, she participated in a National Basketball Association (NBA) program that helps NBA and Womenâs National Basketball Association (WNBA) players plan for life after basketball. Catchings interned at the WNBA league office in New York City. The experience and knowledge she gained through her internship will prepare her for her new position as game analyst for SEC Network.

Chelsea Kulesa: It was phenomenal. The whole human resources team (I might be a bit biased as I was their intern) was so organized and they really, truly cared about making the experience as fulfilling as possible for all of us. Career Ready: Strengthening Indianaâs Talent Pipeline
Indiana INTERNnet, Indiana Commission for Higher Education, and Purdue University joined forces to coordinate a session during the HR Indiana Annual Conference. The session, Career Ready: Strengthening Indianaâs Talent Pipeline, occurred on Wednesday, the final day of the conference. Indiana INTERNnet was honored to share the podium with brilliant minds who are shaping and strengthening Indiana’s talent pipeline for career readiness.
A few of Indianaâs esteemed influencers in the world of education, public affairs, workforce policy, and business shared their insights on plans to help Indianaâs economy grow. Teresa Lubbers, the Commissioner for Indianaâs Commission for Higher Education (CHE), discussed invaluable strategies that CHE is pursuing to ensure Indianaâs post-secondary education system is aligned to meet the needs of students and the state. She addressed key values of career alignment, competency and completion that will carry CHEâs goals to the fullest extent of success in our community.
