Career Advice From The Program Coordinator For Indiana Healthy Communities

Earlier this week we had the opportunity to interview a current employee of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Madie Newman is the Indiana Healthy Communities Program Coordinator for the Wellness Council of Indiana. We asked her about her college experience and how it helped her prepare for her professional career.

 

 

Indiana INTERNnet: What is your current position and what does it entail?

Madie Newman: Iā€™m the Indiana Healthy Communities Program Coordinator for the Wellness Council of Indiana, which is a subsidiary of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. I work with communities across the state to help them assess programs, services, and infrastructure, and create goals to improve community health and quality of life.

Emily Miles: Making an IMPACT

Indiana INTERNnet celebrated internship excellence on February 26, 2019 at the 13th Annual IMPACT Awards Luncheon. Though the event is over, and the winners have been announced, we are continuing to celebrate the nomineesā€™ successes.

Emily Miles plans to graduate from Indiana University-Bloomington in May 2019 with a bachelorā€™s degree in journalism and specialization in audio. She currently works as the Audio and Special Projects Specialist at the IU-Bloomington Office of the Provost & Executive Vice President and helps run the student podcast American Student Radio.

Zack Chambers: I will be graduating from Indiana University this May with a Bachelorā€™s in Marketing and Professional Sales. I always say that I have come to marketing backwards. I started out with a love of writing that brought me to media and editing. The Transition from College to Career

As a recent college graduate from a Big 10 university, I know how stressful and exciting those last few months of campus life can be. Itā€™s a whirlwind of emotions.

In the middle of trying to take in all the sights and scenes before I left a place I called home for the last four years, I had to stop and consider what the next step was. Once I received my diploma, I was faced with the decision of whether to immediately start my career, attend grad school or take time to travel the world. But transitioning from a free-spirited undergrad to a professional with a bachelorā€™s degree was tougher than I thought!

(INDIANAPOLIS) — Indiana INTERNnet, the statewide resource for internship opportunities from the Indiana Chamber, recognized achievements in internships and mentoring today at the 2010 IMPACT Awards Luncheon. The honorees are:

Outstanding Employer of the Year (not-for-profit) – International Center of Indianapolis
Outstanding Employer of the Year (for-profit) – ExactTarget
Career Services Professional of the Year – Jeremy Podany, School of Informatics and Computing at Indiana University – Bloomington
