TransWorks: Making an IMPACT
Indiana INTERNnet celebrated internship excellence on Feb. 3, 2016, at the 10th Annual IMPACT Awards luncheon. Though the event is over and the winners have been announced, we are continuing to celebrate the nomineesā successes.
These are their stories.
TransWorks was a great internship experience. The atmosphere at TransWorks is very welcoming. Everyone is friendly and willing to help, and I felt like I could talk to anyone in the office.
They also keep you involved with the company by inviting you to watch their softball games, join them for lunch, or go to TinCaps game with them. It was a far better experience than I ever imagined my first internship would be like, and I am extremely grateful for that.
TransWorks gave me the option of what kind of work I could do for them when I first began. I could either do something easy or something hard. …

Indiana INTERNnet: What do you love about sales and marketing?
Josh Valadez: I enjoy being involved in the company and knowing my role is part of a larger purpose. I am also a very talkative person, which being in sales allows me to talk without getting in trouble most of the time. I am a very creative person, and being in marketing empowers me to make my own decisions. I love being able to affect peopleās lives in a positive way, and I can do that through understanding sales and marketing.

IIN: You read prints, studied parts and worked with operators to optimize the designs for production gauges and minimize costs. How was this experience?
BB: It was a great experience. At one point, we were having a significant amount of nonconforming parts, and I was asked to investigate and see if I could determine the source of the nonconforming pieces. I took multiple measurements and tracked an entire batch of parts through their production process. I recorded all dimensions and checked each piece with its go-nogo gauge. I noticed that in several instances, the results of the measurements would be within specification, but would fail the go-nogo gauge.
