Public Health Connect is a consulting and community-building firm based in Indianapolis that works at the intersection of public health, nonprofit strategy, and government affairs. We are seeking a Legislative & Policy Intern to join our team through Work and Learn Indiana. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in state and local policy, legislative tracking, advocacy strategy, and stakeholder engagement.
The intern will work closely with our Government Affairs & Grant Strategy team to research and monitor legislation, attend legislative briefings, support coalition building, and draft policy summaries. The role will give direct exposure to how public health and community-based organizations interact with policymakers to shape impactful change.
Responsibilities

Research pending legislation and provide concise summaries.

Attend (in-person or virtual) legislative sessions, committee hearings, or community policy forums.

Track policy issues in public health, education, and social services.

Draft briefing memos, advocacy one-pagers, and stakeholder updates.

Support the team in preparing for legislative meetings and advocacy days.

Assist with outreach to community partners and policymakers.
Qualifications

Undergraduate or graduate student in Political Science, Public Affairs, Public Health, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.

Strong writing, research, and communication skills.

Interest in government, public policy, and community engagement.

Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks.
