POSITION OVERVIEW
Peace Learning Center is an Indianapolis-based nonprofit organization whose programs center on social emotional learning, restorative practices, and community building for participants of all ages.
The Advancement Intern supports Peace Learning Center's fundraising, donor engagement, and public-facing communications work. This internship offers two tracks, Nonprofit Development/Fundraising/Philanthropy and Marketing/Communications. Interns may choose to focus on one track or gain experience across both, depending on their interests and career goals.
Responsibilities
TRACK A: NONPROFIT DEVELOPMENT, FUNDRAISING & PHILANTHROPY
Focus: building skills in donor relations, grant support, and fundraising strategy.
Responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with prospect research and donor database maintenance
- Supporting grant-related tasks such as compiling supporting documents or drafting sections under staff guidance
- Helping plan and execute donor communications, appeals, and stewardship activities
- Assisting with fundraising event logistics and follow-up
- Tracking gifts, acknowledgments, and donor touchpoints
TRACK B: MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS
Focus: building skills in nonprofit storytelling, brand consistency, and audience engagement.
Responsibilities may include:
- Drafting and scheduling content for social media and email communications
- Assisting with newsletter production and website updates
- Supporting photo/video documentation of programs (with appropriate consent protocols)
- Helping develop marketing materials for programs and events
- Assisting with brand consistency across print and digital materials
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled college student; major in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, public relations, or related field preferred
- Strong written communication skills
- Comfortable with basic digital tools (email platforms, social media, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace); willingness to learn donor database or design tools
- Detail-oriented and able to handle sensitive donor information with discretion
- Interest in nonprofit development, fundraising, or communications as a career path
- Must successfully complete a background check as a condition of employment, per Peace Learning Center policy.
