Description

The SJCPL Youth Services Department is looking for a creative, enthusiastic, and self-motivated person to help develop early literacy activities and storytimes for the community. As an intern, you will provide support to staff for our annual Summer Reading Challenge, help plan and implement storytime and early literacy activities, and provide assistance to staff and library patrons. This person will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about Early Childhood Development and put it into practice by working within our diverse community.

Responsibilities

Once here you will:

  • Assist, plan, implement storytimes and programs for young children and their families.
  • Become familiar with literature, materials, resources, and library services related to early literacy.
  • Learn the principles of Every Child Ready to Read (E.C.R.R.).
  • Assist with Library tours and programming for community groups.
  • Develop creative pop-up activities to promote early literacy skills.
  • Help promote SJCPL’s Summer Reading Challenge, 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, and other early literacy programs.
  • Assist staff at the Youth Services desk, directing patrons to materials and services, up to 8 hours per week.
  • Complete a capstone project that helps us engage more authentically with our community.

Qualifications

Relevant experience:

  • Experience working with young children and their caregivers is preferred. 
  • Comfortable using Internet, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Windows and Mac OS
  • Community-minded
  • Exercise initiative, be enthusiastic, creative, flexible, energetic, value diversity, and possess a sense of humor.

Experiencia relevante:

  • Experiencia trabajando con niños pequeños y sus cuidadores preferido 
  • Bilingüe (español e inglés) obligatorio
  • Cómodo usando el Internet, Microsoft Office, Google Suite y Windows y Mac OS.
  • Mentalidad comunitaria
