Meet the New Intern!

Hi, all! Iā€™m so excited to be the marketing and videography intern this summer at Indiana INTERNnet! Iā€™m going into my senior year of college at Indiana University, where I study journalism and Spanish. I was born and raised in Indianapolis. I love this city, and am thrilled to be working right downtown.

Iā€™ve been creating videos for fun since high school, but I never thought about making it into a career until an IU student organization I’m involved with,Ā RUF, asked me if I would make videos for them.

This is the first time that Indiana INTERNnet has taken on a marketing and videography intern, and Iā€™m so glad they did! But why hire a videography intern?

In our Internet-immersed culture, video can make a huge impact! Take it from the countless viral videos floating around on social media these daysā€”people love a good video, and a good video will get shared again and again, racking up the number of views.

Here are three reasons why video is becoming an essential part of online marketing.

  1. 55% of people watch videos online every day, and 78% of people watch videos online every week (Source:Ā MWP). This is a staggering number of potential viewers, and, obviously, the more viewers, the better!
  2. According to Dr. James McQuivey of Forrester Research, a video is worth 1.8 million words. Videos can convey a lot of information in a quick and efficient way.
  3. The Online Publishers Association (now Digital Content Next) reported that 80% of surveyed internet users recalled watching a video ad on a web site in the past month. Of that 80%, 46% took some sort of action after watching a video ad. This shows that video ads tend to stick in peoplesā€™ minds after viewing them.
