Indiana INTERNnet’s Online Internship Fair: A New Way to Recruit Talent

Join Indiana INTERNnet at its second online internship fair on October 30! The event takes place virtually through CareerEco which means you will be able to connect with students around the state from the comfort of your office. It is the perfect opportunity to find your next spring, summer or even fall 2020 interns!

Like a traditional internship/career fair, employers can connect directly with potential interns. However, unlike a traditional fair, everything takes virtually place within a chat room. Registered employers have their own chat room with the option to host private text, video or audio chat sessions.

Here are some more benefits of the online internship fair:

Eliminate travel costs and costs associated with ordering promotional items

Since the fair takes place online, there are absolutely no travel costs associated with attending. Employers can take part in the fair from their home, office, coworking space, coffee shop, anywhere!

Travel isn’t the only expense associated with in-person internship fairs. Attending an in-person fair means purchasing promotional signage, tablecloths and handouts to make your booth stand out. The costs associated with those items can quickly add up, with sometimes limited return on investment. At Indiana INTERNnet’s online internship fair, those items are not needed, saving you money and the headache of hauling them across campus in the cold.

Access to attendees’ information before and after fair

Each registered student has access to create a profile prior to attending the fair. Within their profile, they’re able to upload a resume, including contact information, list their current major and educational institution, and indicate when they wish to begin interning. Employers are able to view this information before the fair. If specific students stand out, you can “favorite” them so they stand out when the fair actually occurs.

After the fair is over, all student information is still available to registered employers. This is unlike traditional fairs, where you only get the contact information from the students you connect with in person. That way, if you didn’t get a chance to speak with some of your top candidates, you will still have access to their contact information and can follow up. This access to information provides many more opportunities to connect with potential applicants.

Full log of chat and ability to take notes

At a traditional career fair, it can be challenging to remember every student you speak to. When lines get long, it’s a luxury to get a few seconds to scribble down some notes on the back of a resume. By the end of the day, faces and names become one big blur. Luckily, at Indiana INTERNnet’s online internship fair the entire chat, including private chats, are logged. Once the fair is over, you can easily download the full transcript and highlight those students who stood out.

The online internship fair also provides employers with the option to take notes on candidates. With a simple click of a button, you can take a couple notes on standout students.

Participants are from schools around the state

Indiana INTERNnet’s online internship fair is open to any student who is looking to intern in Indiana. Registered employers will have the ability to connect with students from a wide variety of colleges and universities, making it extremely cost affective. Traditional in-person career/internship fairs only allow employers to connect with students from one institution. Employers have to register for each individual college or university’s career/internship fairs, and at an average of $200-$400 per event. Those costs add up.

Unlimited number of recruiters per registration

Most in-person fairs allow a maximum of two recruiters per registration. For companies who are hiring many interns in a variety of departments, that could be a problem. Indiana INTERNnet’s online internship fair allows employers to have an unlimited number of recruiters attend the fair. Each recruiter can have various levels of permissions such as the ability to view participant information, access the chat room and more.

Flexible schedule

The online internship fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST, but your company does not have to attend the entire time. Each registered organization is able to set its own chat schedule, and this information is visible to students. Some companies take an hour for lunch, so they don’t have to worry about responding to chats while eating.

You can also create multiple chat rooms within your company’s main chat room. This is a great feature if your company has internship opportunities within a variety of departments. For example, you could have a chat room dedicated to your marketing internship available from noon to 2 p.m. and another chat room dedicated to your finance internship available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

If you cannot attend the October 30 fair, we are also hosting another event on January 30, 2020.
