Description

Tiny Explorers Center is an early childhood development program based out of commercial homes. We currently have four different locations in which we service ages birth- 5 years of age; each location is broken up age groups. Interns will be under the supervision of the Lead educator and will receive training hours, experience in the classroom, and also become eligible for TEACH scholarship that will fund any degree within early childhood that one would want to attain. Interns will also be equipped with knowledge on how to lesson plan, take observation notes, learn variety ways to communicate with families and also given the opportunity to learn the business side of things if desired. Overall learning goals for intern are to learn the ins and outs of how to run a childcare program and how to successfully provide quality service and education to early childhood learners. 

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

As an Early Childhood Educator, you will play a pivotal role in preparing young children for future schooling by fostering basic skills and sociability. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Developing and Implementing Curriculum
  • Create and Implement Daily Activities:
    • Develop and execute developmentally appropriate daily activities for each child to engage in.
    • Plan and execute indoor and outdoor experiences suitable for the interests and developmental levels of the children.
    • Ensure daily activities are planned around the Indiana State Foundations specific to the child’s age group.
    • Incorporate a variety of learning methods in daily activities.
  1. Child Interaction and Learning Support
  • Support Play and Learning:
    • Interact with children to support play, exploration, and learning.
    • Teach basic skills such as color, shape, number, and letter recognition, personal hygiene, and social skills.
    • Be attentive to children’s needs and wants throughout the day.
  1. Communication and Collaboration
  • Effective Communication:
    • Communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff.
    • Establish a healthy and professional relationship with co-teacher to maintain daily responsibilities.
    • Coordinate with parents to ensure children receive the best learning and care both at home and in school.
    • Report any incidents/accidents involving children, families, staff, or third parties to the director.
  1. Observation and Assessment
  • Monitor and Record Development:
    • Observe and record children’s growth, development, and behavior using electronic portfolios.
    • Monitor children’s interactions and nurture cooperation and sharing.
  1. Safety and Environment Management
  • Maintain a Safe Environment:
    • Always maintain a safe and healthy environment for children.
    • Organize nap and snack hours and supervise children to ensure their safety.
  • Daily Cleanliness and Sanitation:
    • Ensure daily cleaning and sanitation of common and student areas, including toys, cots, and other equipment.
    • Abide by the daily sanitation checklist to ensure all areas are properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Monthly Cleanliness and Sanitation:
    • Conduct thorough monthly cleaning and sanitation of all areas and equipment to maintain a hygienic environment.
  1. Transition Preparation
  • Prepare for Future Schooling:
    • Prepare children for the transition to kindergarten or elementary school.
  1. Teamwork, Collaboration, and Respect

Teamwork and Collaboration:

  • Foster a Collaborative Environment:
    • Work closely with co-teachers and other staff to create a cohesive and supportive teaching environment.
    • Share responsibilities and collaborate on planning and implementing activities and curriculum.
    • Engage in regular team meetings to discuss student progress, classroom strategies, and any challenges that may arise.

Respectful Communication:

  • Enhance the Working Atmosphere:
    • Treat all colleagues, children, and parents with respect and professionalism.
    • Listen actively and value the input of others.
    • Address any conflicts or concerns promptly and constructively.

Promote a Positive Culture:

  • Supportive Relationships:
    • Build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, children, and families.
    • Encourage a culture of mutual respect, kindness, and cooperation within the classroom and the broader school community.
    • Model respectful behavior and foster a respectful atmosphere among children.

Qualifications

Intern must be looking to pursue career in early childhood education. 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Educational Requirements:
    • Childcare Experience, CDA, Associate’s, or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Skills and Attributes:
    • Passion for working with young children.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Patience, creativity, and adaptability.
    • Strong teamwork and collaborative skills.
    • Ability to enhance the working atmosphere and treat others with respect.
