2015 holds excitement and promise

The end of the year always prompts two things for me: reminiscing about the past and looking ahead to the future.

Eight months ago, I started my summer internship with Milliner & Associates (M&A) – the way I always envisioned spending a summer. It showed me what it would be like to function in the real world, and I was more than ready for it. When I accepted the fall internship with M&A, I never anticipated what a balancing act it would be with schoolwork. I learned quickly how to go from full time to part time and still get all my work done.

Just about a month ago, I wrestled with the idea of staying a third semester. I thought I would need that time to search for full-time employment after graduation. However, since I have the lightest semester of academic work ahead of me, I wanted my learning to continue outside the classroom.

I officially accepted my third internship with M&A in early December, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. It’s the best of both worlds from the summer and fall internships. Work will still be part-time, but I will be at the office all day Tuesday and Thursday—long enough to feel like I am accomplishing my work with ease. Since I am a returning intern, I get to take more ownership over my job by interviewing candidates and going to more networking events. I have absolute confidence that the decision to come back a third time prepares me to step into the professional world after graduation.

2015 will be a big year. I will graduate from college, spend time in Europe and start a new job. Graduating also means I can’t be an intern with M&A anymore. However, if the timing is right, maybe I will be able to come back with another title.

Not every year in a person’s life is so open with possibility and opportunity, but 2015 is for me. I can’t wait to see what is in store.
