Gabriella Moline: Making an IMPACT

Indiana INTERNnet celebrated internship excellence on February 26, 2019 at the 13th Annual IMPACT Awards Luncheon. Though the event is over and the winners have been announced, we are continuing to celebrate the nomineesā€™ successes.

These are their stories.

Gabriella Moline will be graduating this May from Butler University with a bachelorā€™s in journalism and a minor in digital media production and strategy. Gabriella has interned at The Childrenā€™s Museum of Indianapolis and BLASTmedia. Gabriella is also the winner of the 2019 College Intern of The Year award!

Indiana INTERNnet: When will you be graduating and why did you pursue a degree in journalism with a minor in digital media?

Gabriella Moline: I will be graduating from Butler University this upcoming May. Iā€™ve always loved to write and have a passion for telling stories, which made me pick journalism as my major. As my college career has progressed, Iā€™ve learned that I love to promote organizations and attractions, which is why I added my respective minors. Currently, Iā€™m interning as a public relations intern at BLASTmedia, where Iā€™m enhancing my writing skills in an agency setting.

IIN: Was this your first internship? Why did you choose to complete an internship?

GM: Before my internship at The Childrenā€™s Museum, I had completed two other internships. I knew I wanted to find an experience more geared towards public relations and once I read the posting for the museumā€™s internship program, I knew I had to apply. The mission and values of the museum spoke to me and I loved that it provided me with real-life opportunities to grow. In addition, itā€™s such a fun environment and a place where you look forward going to work each day.

IIN: How would you describe your internship experience?

GM: My internship with The Childrenā€™s Museum was a truly transformative experience. I dove into the world of public relations for a large non-profit and formed a lot of valuable relationships and experiences along the way. During my internship, the museum opened a $38.5 million expansion called The Riley Childrenā€™s Health Sports Legends Experience. I got to be there for the entire process, which was very rewarding. Some of my projects included assisting with familiarization visits, writing promotional articles, and helping with media contacts.

IIN: How many internships have you completed? Could you describe the benefits youā€™ve gained from these experiences?

GM: I have completed five internships. Each one has provided me with different insight into what Iā€™m looking for in a future career and has helped me develop my skills along the way. Iā€™ve learned a lot during my time in the classroom at Butler, but my internships have refined and developed my knowledge in a professional setting. Theyā€™ve also provided me with incredible mentors, who I stay in touch with even after the internships have ended.

IIN: Has your nomination for IMPACT Awards impacted your life?

GM: The IMPACT Award nomination has created a really positive impact on my life. Itā€™s made me reflect back on the importance of my internships and everything Iā€™ve learned along the way. The awards banquet also brought together all my mentors and supporters in the same room, which was a poignant and impactful experience for me.

Gabby … SO proud of you and ALL your hard work and dedication. While the award or your successes donā€™t surprise me after knowing your work ethic from coaching you in HS cheer, I am thrilled youā€™ve taken that work ethic to the real world. I know you will be successful wherever you land after graduation and that any company that hires you will be fortunate to have you on their staff! Best wishes as you move forward!!!
