Meet the Intern: Makayla Walke

meet the intern: makayla walke

Hello! My name is Makayla Walke, but I mostly go by Kayla. I am very excited to be Indiana INTERNnetā€™s summer intern for 2019. I just finished my freshman year at Marian University, where I am currently studying marketing.

Before I came to Marian, I attended high school in Crawfordsville, Indiana. I grew up in Waynetown with a population of a little over 900, and surrounded by cornfields. It was a big change moving to Indianapolis and experiencing traffic that was not just from an oversized tractor on the road. I love being in the city so far and can see myself living here in the future.

My previous work experiences include small summer jobs like being a slide monitor at a local pool and making pizzas at a Pizza King. My job I had throughout high school was at an Ace Hardware. I loved each one of these positions, but Iā€™m really looking forward to finding my place in a more corporate environment.

I am super excited to work for Indiana INTERNnet! Their website made it possible for me to get an internship as a freshman in college and fulfill my dream of working in downtown Indy. Before knowing about Indiana INTERNnet, I did not know the first thing about finding and applying for internships. I was amazed with how manageable it was to find positions I was interested in and how simple the application process was.

During the school year I work at the Marian University library. I am usually seen in the Starbucks on campus studying any time I am not in class. I’m also on the executive board for campus activities. I work with an amazing team of students to put on events for the campus like formals and movie nights.Ā  My favorite pastimes include reading, watching Netflix, or going shopping with my twin sister and friends.

I am really looking forward to working on blog posts for Indiana INTERNnet and helping with events throughout the summer! Be on the lookout for more of my work!
