Indianapolis Monthly Student Internship

Description

Indianapolis Monthly magazine has internship opportunities in the editorial, art, dining, and digital departments for spring, summer, and fall sessions. Our staff of editors and art directors provides a fun, informational learning experience for our interns. Though we do not pay, we understand the value of samples for aspiring journalists and designers, and we try to get you as many writing and design opportunities as possible in the print magazine, as well as online.

Internship dates and hours are flexible. We are on a hybrid schedule, working Tue-Thu in the office and Mon-Fri from home every week. Interns are expected to come in at least one day for several hours every week. Otherwise, how interns arrange their schedule is up to them. 

Responsibilities

Our interns get hands-on newsroom experience with fact-checking (to make sure we cite details correctly), writing shorter stories, contributing to larger editorial packages, creating online content, assisting with research, attending editorial meetings, pitching ideas, conducting or sitting in on interviews, and participating in design or photography projects.

Qualifications

Experience with writing, editing, and/or designing content for print, web, and social media use is desired. It's a plus if applicants have been involved in student publications and media at their schools.
