Description

King’s Play Cafe is a family-friendly entertainment and play center that provides a welcoming space for children and families to enjoy safe, engaging experiences. Our work-based learning program gives the learner hands-on exposure to restaurant management by observing and supporting day-to-day operations in a customer-focused environment. The learner will receive direct supervision, training, and mentorship from the owner/manager and designated staff members, who will provide guidance on customer service, food and beverage operations, guest experience, communication, teamwork, time management, and workplace expectations. Learning goals for the learner include developing leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, while gaining a better understanding of restaurant operations, hospitality standards, and how to support a positive dining and guest experience.

Responsibilities

King’s Play Cafe’s Restaurant Management intern will support learning-based projects that help them understand how a restaurant operates day to day. Responsibilities may include observing and assisting with guest flow, supporting food and beverage service preparation, helping organize opening and closing checklists, tracking inventory or supply needs, learning basic scheduling and shift coordination, assisting with customer feedback follow-up, and supporting menu or service updates. The learner may also help review operational procedures, observe team communication, and contribute ideas for improving guest experience and workflow efficiency. These responsibilities are intended to provide hands-on learning and exposure to management functions rather than routine employee duties.

Qualifications

King’s Play Cafe’s Restaurant Management intern should be a dependable, motivated student with strong communication, organization, and customer service skills. The learner should be comfortable working in a team environment, following directions, and learning about restaurant operations, hospitality, and guest experience. Attention to detail, a positive attitude, and an interest in management, food service, or business operations are preferred. No prior management experience is required, as this internship is designed to provide introductory hands-on learning.

Learning Objectives

The learner will gain a foundational understanding of restaurant management and hospitality operations in a customer-focused environment. Learning objectives include developing skills in communication, teamwork, organization, time management, problem-solving, and customer service. The learner will also gain experience observing and supporting guest flow, food and beverage operations, inventory awareness, scheduling basics, and operational procedures. In addition, the learner will learn how management decisions impact the guest experience, team efficiency, and overall business success.
