Indiana INTERNnet Welcomes New Executive Director

Indiana INTERNnet announced today the arrival of Janet Boston; she most recently was the director of marketing/director of regional services for the Arts Council of Indianapolis. Boston has a bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana University and an MBA from Butler University.

Boston brings extensive management, communications, marketing, planning and fundraising skills to the executive director position, according to Indiana Chamber President Kevin Brinegar. The Indiana Chamber has managed the Indiana INTERNnet program, which is funded by a grant from Lilly Endowment, since January 2006.

“In particular, we believe Janet’s track record of leadership and relationship-building in the community, non-profit and corporate worlds are ideal for working with the various interests involved in Indiana INTERNNet – be it the students, businesses or universities.”

Indiana INTERNnet was formed in 2001, shortly after a series of studies done in collaboration with the Indiana Chamber, the Indiana Commission of Higher Education and the Indiana Fiscal Policy Institute that clearly demonstrated the state’s “brain-drain” problem. The not-for-profit’s goal is to assist in retaining college graduates by providing them with easy access to job-related information and tools, as well as avenues to build business relationships through meaningful internships – all increasing opportunities for successful employment in the state.

To date, approximately 50,000 college students, 1,400 high school students and 4,100 Hoosier employers have used Indiana INTERNnet as a resource for internships.

“Over the past five years, we have built an established statewide resource for internships. With Janet’s commitment and passion as well as the continued strong work of the INTERNnet staff, we envision our numbers increasing even higher and our recognition expanding in all areas of the state,” notes David McKinnis, chairman of the Indiana INTERNnet board of directors, and director of Purdue University’s Technical Assistance Program.
