Description

The Local & Family History department (LFH) is looking for a curious and detail-oriented person to assist with preserving, researching, and writing about local history. As our intern, you will digitize historical materials for our online collections as well as contribute to sharing history with the community through research and writing. Your projects will contribute to preparations for the US 250th anniversary in 2026.

This position is 40 hours per week and pays $15.30 per hour. Review of applications will begin March 16th and continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities

Once here you will:

  • Work with a community partner on an off-site digitization project.
  • Photograph and describe library materials for online digital collections.
  • Conduct historical research in the library’s collection and online.
  • Write for departmental publications.
  • Participate in planning for commemorating the US 250th.
  • Support department staff in daily operations.

Qualifications

  • Drivers license with a clean driving record required
  • Experience with historical research and writing
  • Basic photography and photo editing skills preferred
  • Comfortable using Internet, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Windows and Mac OS
  • Community-minded
  • Exercise initiative, be enthusiastic, creative, flexible, energetic, value diversity, and possess a sense of humor
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
